Fix-Wolansky Scores Game Winner in 4-3 Win Over Rebels

The Oil Kings brought the home ice advantage this afternoon at Rogers Place as they defeated the Rebels in a thrilling 4-3 matinee matchup on Sportsnet’s Saturday Showcase. Oil Kings right winger Trey Fix-Wolansky lifted Edmonton to victory scoring the game winning goal with just eight seconds remaining in the game.

Liam Keeler opened the scoring on Saturday afternoon with a short handed goal in the second period sending Edmonton into the third frame with a 1-0 lead. In the third, Red Deer netted a pair of goals early in the frame to go-ahead 2-1. Edmonton would answer back minutes later as David Kope scored his ninth goal of the season. Colton Kehler would add a power play marker to put the Oil Kings back in front midway through the third.

With less than two minutes to play, Rebels Reese Johnson would score shorthanded to tie the game 3-3 but Fix-Wolansky would get the buzzer beater to secure the Oil Kings victory.

TURNING POINT:

The third period saw back and forth action between the Oil Kings and Rebels which was eventually broken when Fix-Wolansky netted his 23rd goal of the season, winning the game for the home team.

PLAY OF THE GAME:

Oil Kings captain Colton Kehler picked up his 24th goal of the season on Saturday afternoon on the powerplay at 8:52 of the third period to put the Oil Kings ahead 3-2.

PLAYER OF THE GAME:

Oil Kings netminder Josh Dechaine was red hot against the Rebels stopping 29 of 32 shots on goal. Dechaine’s stellar performance between the pipes was a key contributor to the Oil Kings victory on home ice.

UNSUNG HERO OF THE GAME:

Rebels right winger Reese Johnson scored his 18th goal of the season on Saturday, the short handed goal tied the game 3-3 with less than two minutes to play in the final frame.
