THIS SEASON VS. KAMLOOPS: The Blazers handed the Oil Kings their worst loss of the season back on Oct. 5 with a 6-2 final at Rexall Pace. Cole Ully had two goals and an assist for Kamloops, and Matt Revel added two goals for the Blazers. Lane Bauer and Brandon Baddock tallied for Edmonton. Cole Kehler made 35 saves for the Blazers in the victory.
TEDDY RECORDS: The Oil Kings set new franchise records at the Teddy Bear Toss Saturday, with 14,066 fans in attendance and 11,492 bears on the ice for 630 CHED Santas Anonymous.
INJURY REPORT: The Oil Kings still had five regulars on the injured list. Forwards Luke Bertolucci (day-to-day upper body), Cole Benson (day-to-day lower body) and Edgars Kulda (2-3 weeks lower body) have been out of the lineup, as have defencemen Jake Kohlhauser (7-10 days, illness) and Jesse Mills (7-10 days, upper body).
DANISH DART: Oil Kings forward Mads Eller leaves the team tomorrow to head to camp with the Danish national squad in preparation for the World Juniors. It will be Eller’s fourth year on the Danish team after picking up five points in five games for Denmark last season in the Division I championship, earning promotion back into the top group for this year. Eller will head to Kindersley, Sask. this week to join the Danish team for a tune-up at the World Junior A Challenge before heading to Montreal and Toronto.
THE LONGEST STREAK: Picking up an assist in Saturday’s game, Oil Kings captain Ashton Sautner now has the longest active point streak in the WHL at 12 games. The 12-game streak also ties a modern franchise record, accomplished twice by Michael St. Croix and once by Dylan Wruck. Sautner is second on the Oil Kings with 26 points this season and seventh among WHL defencemen.
KOEP GOING: Rookie forward Andrew Koep scored the fastest goal in Oil Kings Teddy Bear Toss history Saturday as he redirected Ben Carroll’s point shot just 51 seconds into the game. Koep has seven points in his last six games, and the former second round pick is eighth in WHL rookie scoring with 18 points in 29 games this season.
