TOTAL DONATIONS: $3666.00
Edmonton, AB – The Oil Kings are proud to have participated in the annual Movember campaign to change the face of men’s health! We’re thrilled to report we raised $3666 as a team via donations to our MoSpace page and Movember ticket packs. Thank you, fans!
Oil Kings players and staff members grew moustaches during the month of November to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health initiatives.
“It’s a great cause and it’s fun at the same time,” said Oil Kings assistant captain and mo bro Travis Ewanyk. “It’s something our whole hockey team, our league and the hockey community in general can rally around and have some fun with while raising awareness. Movember has really grown the past few years, and that’s been great.”
Oil Kings forward Mitch Moroz led the team’s Mo-gress, raising an impressive $1589 for men’s health awareness. Movember is an especially important cause for Moroz, as his great uncle recently passed away from prostate cancer.
“My great uncle passed away in July 2011, and he battled various forms of cancer including prostate for over 10 years,” Moroz said. “Our family has been greatly affected by this disease. I’ve seen the struggles that he went through for a good portion of my life. This was a small gesture I could do in his memory.”
The Oil Kings held a team shaving session on Tuesday, October 30, creating the canvas for the players and staff members to grow their upper lip masterpieces.
Updates were posted throughout the month on the Oil Kings official MoSpace page, where fans were able to make their donations.
