Edmonton, AB - Despite a late third period push the Edmonton Oil Kings suffered only their fourth regulation loss at home on Saturday night as they fell 3-2 to the Vancouver Giants at Rexall Place. Edmonton fell behind early on as Vancouver's Brendan Gallagher tallied in the first to make it 1-0 early. The lead would then extend to 2-0 in the second period as the Giants were able to play solid shutdown hockey.

Vancouver would core early on in the third to extend the lead to 3-0 before the Oil Kings wer finally able to find their stride. A reinvigorated Oil Kings squad came stormimg back as rookie Curtis Lazar took a nice pass from Oilers draft pick Martin Gernat across the top of the slot and wired a shot from the left faceoff circle to notch his 15th of the season. Lazar continues to impress as he has now notched 25 points as a 16 year old WHL rookie. Oilers draft pick Kristians Pelss was finally able to tally his 18th of the season with under two minutes to play as the Oil Kings continued to press but it would prove to be too little too late.

Edmonton out shot the Giants 15-4 in the third period but could not find the equalizer as their home record dropped to 21-4-1-1. Edmonton's power play was 0 for 3 on the night while the penalty kill held the G-men to 0 for 2 and outshooting the G-men 30-24. Edmonton remains atop the Eastern Conference standings with 72 points and remain tied with idle Tri City for second in the WHL overall standings.
