Oil Kings Dominate Wheat Kings In Brandon

Brandon, MB – The latest ‘Crown Jewel’ of the Western Hockey League was nabbed by Edmonton in the league’s Battle Of The Kings.    The Oil Kings downed the Wheat Kings 7 – 1 in Brandon to continue their impressive road trip through the East Division.    Manitoban Michael St. Croix scored a pair of goals and added an assist while line mate Dylan Wruck also had a 3 point night in a game that Edmonton dominated from start to finish. Stephane Legault, Cole Benson, Mitchell Moroz and Jordan Peddle all chipped in with singles for the Oil Kings.

Edmonton’s veteran goalie Laurent Brossoit was about 8 minutes away from the shutout and had to be sharp making 41 saves for his 22nd win of the season. The Surrey, B.C. native has been forced to carry the load on this road trip with backup Tristan Jarry off with Team Pacific at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

The Oil Kings have picked up 5 of a possible 6 points on their current road trip that will wrap up New Year’s Day in Regina.   Edmonton leads the entire Eastern Conference with a record of 25-9-1-3, good for 54 points, just 2 points shy of idle Tri-Cities for first place in the WHL.

With the Edmonton portion of the World Juniors concluding on New Year’s Eve, the Oil Kings will return to Rexall Place Wednesday January 4th against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. It’s another Wiener Wednesday presented by K97 with hot dogs on sale for $2 all night long.
