In their last tune-up game, the Edmonton Oil Kings topped the Red Deer Rebels 6-2 with four third period goals.
Carter Souch led the way for the Oil Kings with two goals and an assist.
“I thought our whole team played really well. We were getting pucks on net, moving the puck lots,” said Souch. “It’s good to end on a high note.”
The game was tied at two after 40 minutes despite the Oil Kings outshooting the Rebels 24-16.
Todd Scott, who played the entire game in net for the Oil Kings, said it was a message from coach Brad Lauer before the final frame that got the team inspired to finish strong.
“We kind of got a kick in the butt from the coach who said we got away from our game plan in the second,” said Scott. “But the boys came out and were just electric. They were on fire and it made my job a lot easier. It was pretty cool to see.”
“After the first 40 minutes we had done a lot of good things,” said head coach Lauer. “I thought it was just important for us to continue to do that. I challenged them for the period and I thought they responded.”
The Oil Kings now prepare for the opening of the regular season at Rogers Place on September 21. Puck drop is at 7:00 PM and great tickets start at just $20.
