Last month the Victoria Royals came into Rogers Place and snuck away with a heartbreaking last second 3-2 OT win. Fast forward a few weeks later and the Edmonton Oil Kings looked to exact revenge on the Island by jumping out to a 2-0 lead. However, the Royals chipped away at it and scored three unanswered to win the game 3-2.
OIL KINGS 2 @ ROYALS 3
SOG: Oil Kings: 34 Royals: 22
PP: Oil Kings: 1/4 Royals: 2/5
PK: Oil Kings: 3/5 Royals: 3/4
Brett Kemp (5)
Kobe Mohr (5)
Travis Child (4-5-1-0) 19/22
SAVE OF THE GAME:
Travis Child robs Matthew Phillips who was in alone midway through the second period for one of his 19 stops on the night.
Midway through the third period, Tyler Soy would score on the power play and give the Royals the 3-2 lead. That would be all they needed as they won by that score.
PLAY OF THE GAME:
Scott Atkinson buries his head and skates 100 feet to chase down Matthew Phillips who was on a shorthanded breakaway. Atkinson catches Phillips and sweeps the puck off his stick without taking a penalty and possibly saving a goal.
Then about five minutes later (with less than a minute left in the period) the Royals had another breakaway and this time Fedor Rudakov chases them down and knocks the puck away.
PLAYER OF THE GAME:
Matthew Phillips was his usual brilliant self as he created chances all night long and finished the game with a pair of assists.
UNSUNG HERO OF THE GAME:
Fedor Rudakov played a nice sound defensive game and helped stave off the potential tying goal in the second with a smart back check.
