It was a week of firsts for the Edmonton Oil Kings in the community, as players from the 2016-17 team were first time participants in two events in Edmonton and the surrounding area.
The first event was the 5th Annual I Wish for a New Waiter Gala where local personalities stepped in as waiters for the evening – assisting with service and entertaining guests for the duration of the event to benefit the Children’s Wish Foundation.
Oil Kings Trey Fix-Wolansky and Davis Murray were part of Team Wildcard along with Edmonton Eskimos Justin Sorensen and Ryan King. Fix-Wolansky and Murray were the stars to start the evening as tables took part in a live auction to have the two players sit at their table for the evening. The Oil Kings were honoured to be included in this great initiative raising money for such a deserving cause.
The next day, the Oil Kings visited the Edmonton Garrison Community Library for the library’s weekly Story Time Program. Oil Kings rookies, Nick Bowman and Josh Dechaine read a handful of great hockey stories to over 80 children ages 4-8 followed by questions and of course, autographs!
Being the first time visit to Edmonton Garrison, the 3rd Canadian Division Support Base in Edmonton, the children were ecstatic to have two Oil Kings come read to them to kick-off the weekend.
Oil Kings Director of Business Operations, Kevin Radomski was thrilled that the Oil Kings organization was able to support such a great military initiative, “The Edmonton Oil Kings take great pride in supporting the love of reading, after all who doesn’t like a good book?” said Radomski.
“With the ability to participate in an event at the Edmonton Garrison Community Library we’re able to support two worthwhile pillars to our organization.”
