Edmonton, AB – The Oil Kings will look to make it four wins in a row as they welcome the Vancouver Giants to Rexall Place tonight. Edmonton has taken victories in eight of their last ten games and currently sit atop the WHL Eastern Conference standings. The team is currently ranked sixth in the CHL BMO Mastercard Top Ten.
Tonight will mark the return former Oil Kings Tristan Sieben and Mason Geertsen to the City of Champions. Prior to the start of the season, Sieben was traded to the Giants in exchange for Vancouver’s 6th round pick in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft. Sieben then donned a Giants jersey in the G-men’s first visit to Edmonton in October.
Geertsen was traded along with the Oil Kings 2013 first-round WHL Bantam Draft pick to the Giants in exchange for D-man David Musil. This will be Geertsen’s first game at Rexall Place in an opposing team’s uniform. Tonight’s game will also be somewhat of a family reunion as Thomas Foster, the younger brother of TJ Foster is expected to suit up for Vancouver.
In 2012-13 the Oil Kings have posted a record of 1-0-0-0 vs the Giants. Tristan Jarry had a 29 save performance and Travis Ewanyk notched the game winner as the Oil Kings posted a 5-1 win at Rexall Place on October 28th. The Oil Kings held a 0-3-0-0 record against the Giants in 2011-12. Vancouver was one of the few teams the Oil Kings had a losing record against last season. Over the past five years the Oil Kings have a 2-9-0-0 record against the Giants.
