Oil Kings Open Road Trip with 5-2 Loss to Wheat Kings

The Oil Kings kicked off a four-game road trip on Wednesday night in Brandon where they were defeated by the Wheat Kings 5-2 at Westman Place.

The Wheat Kings opened the scoring 8:26 into the first frame with a quick shot from Connor Gutenberg. Brandon would score four more in the game to secure the victory over Edmonton.

SAVE OF THE GAME:

Minutes into the third frame, Oil Kings goaltender, Josh Dechaine comes up with a great save on Wheat Kings left winger, Ty Lewis. The Oil Kings were on the penalty kill during the play off an Ethan Cap high-sticking penalty.

TURNING POINT:

At 11:17 of the third period, Wheat Kings Wegleitner finds the back of the net to give Brandon a 5-2 lead which would prove to be too large a gap for the Oil Kings to fill.

PLAY OF THE GAME:

Oil Kings defenceman, Matthew Robertson would send a one-timer from the point past Thompson just 2:17 into the second period to put the Oil Kings within one. The goal would mark Robertson’s third goal of the 2017-18 season.

PLAYER OF THE GAME:

Ethan Cap would capture his first goal of the season late in the first period (16:32) off a pass from Soustal to put the Oil Kings on the board and make the score 3-1 heading into the first intermission.
