Oil Kings Raise Over $23,000 for Sorrentino’s Compassion House

The Edmonton Oil Kings proudly wore their special one-off jerseys for the “Pink at the Rink” game on Sunday January 31, 2016, as the Oil Kings joined forces with Sorrentino’s Compassion House in the fight against cancer.

After the 6-2 win vs Kootenay all the game-worn jerseys and pink sticks were auctioned and raffled off raising $23,106.43, which will support Sorrentino’s Compassion House right here in Edmonton.

“We are truly blessed by the generosity of our incredible fans,” said Kevin Radomski, Director of Business Operations. “Cancer is something that really hits home for almost all of us and to be able to help benefit Sorrentino’s Compassion House, a local cause right here in Edmonton that does such important work, makes it that much more meaningful.”

Two of the Oil Kings player’s jerseys went for a significant amount during the live auction with captain Brandon Baddock’s raising $3,500 and alternate captain Aaron Irving’s bringing in $3,000. In addition to the jersey auctions, there was a raffle auction for Brett Pollock’s and Alec Dillon’s jerseys. The raffle tickets were just $5 each and brought in nearly $2,000 in proceeds.

Prior to the game starting there was a very special puck drop ceremony as Oil Kings season seat holder and three-time cancer survivor, Maria Egilsson; and former resident from Sorrentino’s Compassion House, Joni Brodziak dropped the puck at centre ice in front of the 7,789 fans at Rexall Place.

Over the past five seasons the Oil Kings have been privileged to help raise over $145,000 for cancer-related charities.

“Once again our amazing fans are to thank for this,” said Radomski. “There is a battle on the ice but we all recognize there is a far bigger battle off the ice and to come together to raise over $145,000 for the fight against cancer is simply fantastic.”

Sorrentino’s Compassion House is a haven for women battling cancer who must travel to Edmonton for treatment. Warm and inviting, the house provides an affordable and supportive home for patients to come together and focus on what matters most. The house has 14 private suites along with all the amenities of a home including a well equipped kitchen, library, crafts room and comfortable seating areas.
