Saskatoon, SK – Less than 24 hours after their 4-0 shutout of the Hurricanes, the Oil Kings will back on the ice tonight in Saskatoon. Tonight’s game is the second of four meetings between the Oil Kings and Blades this season. Thus far in 2012-13 the Oil Kings have posted a record of 1-0-0-0 vs the Blades. This will be Edmonton’s first visit this season to the 2013 Memorial Cup host city.
The Oil Kings will be without the services of their Captain Griffin Reinhart as he departed this morning for New York Islanders training camp. Reinhart was signed by the Islanders this past summer after they made him the Oil Kings highest ever NHL draft pick. Reinhart was selected 4th overall and recently returned to North America from Ufa, Russia where he was a member of Team Canada at the 2013 IIHF World Jr. Hockey Championships.
Edmonton took a 4-1 win over the Blades in their first meeting of 2012-13 at Rexall Place. Edmonton’s power play was an electric 3 for 5 on the night while holding the Blades to 1 for 9 with the man advantage including a 5 on 3 power play opportunity.
The Oil Kings have the best power play (26.9%) and the best penalty kill (91.7%) in the league. Michael St.Croix leads the WHL with 14 power-play goals while Dylan Wruck is also leading the WHL with 24 power-play assists.
Game time from Saskatoon is set for 6:05 p.m. MST. All games this season will be broadcast live on the TEAM 1260 and streamed live at WHL.ca.
Edmonton will take on the Tigers tomorrow in Medicine Hat – Puck drop is 6:00 p.m. MST This will be the third of three games in three nights for the Oil Kings.
The defending WHL Champions make their return to Rexall Place next Friday, January 18th as they play host the Tigers.
