Wyatt McLeod made overtime magic for the Oil Kings on Sunday afternoon scoring the game winner at 3:37 of the overtime period to lift Edmonton over Kootenay 4-3, kicking off the Oil Kings final home stand of the season in style.
Midway through the first period, Oil Kings Conner McDonald jumped on a rebound in front sending the puck past ICE goalie Duncan McGovern to give Edmonton a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, ICE left-winger Blake Allan sent a quick shot past Dechaine to tie the game 1-1 through 20 minutes.
In the second period, ICE defenceman Martin Bodak put the puck top shelf to give Kootenay a 2-1 lead. The Oil Kings would tie things back up as Trey Fix-Wolansky netted his 30th of the season at 11:43 of the frame. Brett Kemp would add to the Oil Kings lead scoring on the powerplay at 19:03 of the period to give the Oil Kings a 3-2 lead through 40 minutes.
In the third period, the Oil Kings would maintain their one-goal lead through majority of the period. At 19:33 of the frame, ICE right-winger Cameron Hausinger would find the back of the net and tie the game 3-3 forcing overtime.
Both teams would generate good chances in the overtime period, but it was Wyatt McLeod who would find success scoring his 2nd of the season to give the Oil Kings the 4-3 victory.

After Hausinger’s late third period goal sending the game into overtime, it was McLeod’s goal in the extra frame that was the turning point on Sunday afternoon.
