Preview: Oil Kings vs Hurricanes – March 11, 2018
LAST GAME: Wyatt McLeod made overtime magic for the Oil Kings on Sunday afternoon scoring the game winner at 3:37 of the overtime period to lift Edmonton over Kootenay 4-3, kicking off the Oil Kings final home stand of the season in style. Midway through the first period, Oil Kings Conner McDonald jumped on a rebound in front sending the puck past ICE goalie Duncan McGovern to give Edmonton a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, ICE left-winger Blake Allan sent a quick shot past Dechaine to tie the game 1-1 through 20 minutes. In the second period, ICE defenceman Martin Bodak put the puck top shelf to give Kootenay a 2-1 lead. The Oil Kings would tie things back up as Trey Fix-Wolansky netted his 30th of the season at 11:43 of the frame. Brett Kemp would add to the Oil Kings lead scoring on the powerplay at 19:03 of the period to give the Oil Kings a 3-2 lead through 40 minutes. In the third period, the Oil Kings would maintain their one-goal lead through majority of the period. At 19:33 of the frame, ICE right-winger Cameron Hausinger would find the back of the net and tie the game 3-3 forcing overtime. Both teams would generate good chances in the overtime period, but it was Wyatt McLeod who would find success scoring his 2nd of the season to give the Oil Kings the 4-3 victory.

OIL KINGS VS. HURRICANES: The Lethbridge Hurricanes will visit the Oil Kings at Rogers Place on Tuesday night. Through their previous five meetings against one another this season, the Oil Kings have put up a record of 2-3-0-0. The last time these two teams played against one another was on February 3 in Lethbridge. Oil Kings Brett Kemp and Trey Fix-Wolansky both netted goals in the contest where the Oil Kings suffered a 3-2 defeat. Tuesday night’s matchup will mark the sixth and final game of the season series between these two teams.

FIRST CAREER MULTI-POINT: On Friday night, Oil Kings centreman Scott Atkinson recorded his first career multi-point game against the Kootenay ICE. In the game Atkinson picked up two assists, the first off Conner McDonald’s first period marker and the second off Trey Fix-Wolansky’s second period goal. Atkinson now has 11 points (2G, 9A) on the season.
MARKING MULTIPLES: Three Oil Kings recorded multi-point games on Sunday afternoon against Kootenay:
- Soustal recorded his 14th multi-point game of the season putting up two assists
- Atkinson recorded his first multi-point game of the season putting up two assists
- Fix-Wolansky recorded his 24th multi-point game of the season putting up three points (1G, 2A)
