11 WHL PLAYERS SET FOR SHOWCASE – Team Orr goes head-to-head with Team Cherry in the 2013 Home Hardware CHL / NHL Top Prospects Game in Halifax, N.S., on Wednesday night (7:00pm ET; SPORTSNET)

It’s the 18th edition of the annual showcase event that features the top NHL Draft-eligible prospects playing in the Canadian Hockey League.  NHL stars such as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Dion Phaneuf, Carey Price and Jordan Eberle are all former WHL players who took part in the event.

This year’s game will feature the two top-ranked North American skaters going head-to-head with defenceman Seth Jones of the Portland Winterhawks facing forward Nathan MacKinnon of the Halifax Mooseheads.  Jones, who won a Gold medal with Team USA at the World Junior Championships, is the top-ranked skater while MacKinnon comes in at No. 2 on the list.

Other WHL players looking to make an impact and turn some heads include  Jones’ Winterhawks teammate Nicholas Petan, who currently leads the WHL in scoring, and another Winterhawk, Oliver Bjorkstrand.

Goaltender Tristan Jarry of the Edmonton Oil Kings, the third-ranked netminder in NHL Central Scouting’s Mid-Term rankings, will suit up for Team Cherry along with fellow WHL players Eric Roy of the Brandon Wheat Kings, Josh Morrissey of the Prince Albert Raiders, Mirco Mueller of the Everett Silvertips and Morgan Klimchuk of the Regina Pats.

Jones, the captain of Team Orr, will be joined by Petan, Bjorkstrand, Edmonton Oil Kings power forward Curtis Lazar, and defencemen Madison Bowey of the Kelowna Rockets and Shea Theodore of the Seattle Thunderbirds.
