Cranbrook, BC - Edmonton Oilers draft pick Kristians Pelss tallied his third game winner of his last six games to lift the Oil Kings to s 5-4 overtime win over the Kootenay Ice on Wednesday. The win extended the Oil Kings winning streak to nine as they move into first place atop the WHL overall standings. Edmonton now has a one point lead over second place Tri Cities in the race for the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy. Both teams have just two games remaining in the 2011-12 regular season.

Edmonton battled back three times to tie the game in the home of the defending WHL Champions. Rhett Rachinski and Tristan Sieben both posted a goal and an assist with Sieben's goal midway through the third tying the game and forcing overtime.

Goaltender Tristan Jarry made 29 saves on the night to push his record to 8-2-1-0 on the year. Cole Benson and Michael St.Croix tallied the other goals for the Oil Kings. St. Croix's goal was his 43rd of the season and 101st point as he moves into 7th in the WHL goal scoring race.

The Oil Kings current nine game winning streak is their second longest of the season and the longest current streak in the WHL. Edmonton will continue their current road trip through the Central division Friday night in Medicine Hat. The Kings then wrap up the WHL regular season in Red Deer on Saturday. Oil Kings playoff tickets are on sale now.  The Eastern Conference Quarterfinal matchup against a to be determined opponent will start March 23, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Game 2 is Sunday March 25, 2012  at 5:00 p.m.  The first 1500 fans to Game 1 will receive a FREE Oil Kings jersey.  Doors open at 6:00 p.m.   Advance ticket prices in the first round of the playoffs will remain the same as the regular season. ‘Day of Game’ pricing will be in effect so be sure to purchase your tickets early and save.
