Oil Kings Guenther and Team Canada Claim Gold at U18’s

Edmonton, AB – The Edmonton Oil Kings are proud to congratulate forward Dylan Guenther and Team Canada on winning the gold medal at the 2021 IIHF World Under-18 Hockey Championships.

Team Canada prevailed in the gold medal final 5-3 over Team Russia in Frisco, Texas on Thursday night finishing the tournament a perfect 7-0-0.  This marks the first gold medal at the event for Canada since 2013.

Guenther, an Edmonton, Alberta product, finished the tournament with seven points (4G, 3A), a plus-7 rating and two game-winning goals in seven games.

He was the third player in franchise history to represent Canada at the tournament (Matthew Robertson, 2018 and Travis Ewanyk, 2011) and the first to win a gold medal with Canada.

Guenther is currently rated as an ‘A’ prospect by NHL Central Scouting ahead of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft slated for July 23 and 24.
