Robertson selected in second round of NHL Draft

Edmonton Oil Kings defenceman Matthew Robertson was selected by the New York Rangers with their second round, 49th overall pick of the 2019 NHL Draft in Vancouver, BC on Saturday afternoon.

Robertson enjoyed a successful second full season as a member of the Oil Kings in 2018-19, matching his career high in goals (7) and achieving new highs in assists (16) and points (33) along with a plus/minus rating of +18.

The 6-foot-3.5, 198-pound Sherwood Park, AB native was among the leaders in time on ice from the blueline over the course of the season, helping the Oil Kings clinch their first Central Division title since 2014 and advance to the Eastern Conference Championship in the 2019 WHL Playoffs.
